NOTICE TO PARENTS

We welcome our new Head of Department for the Junior Primary –

Mrs. L. Topka.  We also thank Mrs. V. Sewgambar for acting as JP HOD.

Website for Briardale Primary School – Thanks to Mr. &  Mrs. Topka for creating this new website and we are proud to announce that our website was placed in the top 1% of all new websites.

Fun run/walk and fun day will take place on Friday, 20 March 2009 at school.

Please note that according to the proposed budget for 2009 we need to raise funds in order to meet the routine expenses for the year.  Additional amounts raised will be utilized for major school projects, for example, the school hall, sports centre and equipping the new computer room.

Parent assistance:  If you are able to assist with marshalling on the 20th March – please supply us with your details in your child’s communication book.  Lost forms require an affidavit to be filled which can be obtained from school.  An amount of R25,00 is payable for lost forms.

Let’s make it an enjoyable day for our learners who have worked very hard for the term.  Encourage relatives, grandparents, friends and neighbours to participate in this very exciting and healthy fun run/walk.  There are lots of lucky ticket number draw prizes to be won and loads of entertainment.  Please note that school will close at 13h30 for all learners.

Parents who are available on the day are welcome to participate – tickets cost R25,00 or assist on the day.  Remember that this is our community school and our ultimate target is to complete building the school hall.  The Fun run/walk starts at approximately 11h00 and participants are expected to return to school at approximately 12h00.  Each grade is organizing a stall for food, fun and entertainment.  All activities are expected to conclude at approximately 13h00.

At Briardale Primary we are indeed blessed to have such a supportive parent community.  Thank you for your previous contributions and your continued commitment for quality education.  We are motivated to strive to greater heights despite the many adversities.

Parent meeting with Teachers – Wednesday, 1 April 2009 from 13h00 to 14h30 in the afternoon and 17h00 to 19h00 in the evening.  Please call at school to discuss academic progress, peruse class work books and discuss discipline issues.  Parents who have outstanding school fees MUST call at school to make suitable arrangements for payment.  Please note that school will close at 13h00 for all pupils (JP and SP).  Please make the necessary transport arrangements.

End of 1st Term – Friday, 3 April 2009 – will be a civvies day.  A donation of R1,00 will be collected as a privilege for wearing civvies outfits.  Learners who do not participate will be expected to dress in full school uniform.  School will close at 10h30 for all learners.  We wish to take this opportunity of extending our best wishes to parents/learners for a pleasant and restful Easter vacation.  School will reopen for the 2nd term on Wednesday, 15 April 2009.

Discipline and detention – We are appealing to parents to co-operate with the school in taking the measures that are necessary to assist our learners.  Disrupting the class lessons is infringing on the rights of other learners who are interested in learning.  We need to ensure that our children are given the correct guidance in terms of socially acceptable behaviour and thus promoting the safety of all children in the school and the community.

Briardale Primary Soccer Finals – 25 March 2009.  We are gearing up for “WORLD CUP SOCCER – 2010” and to create enthusiasm in the sport, with the assistance of Mr. Hiraman, the finals of the internal competition will be held on Wed. 25 March 2009.  The two teams participating in the finals will represent SOUTH AFRICA and ENGLAND as we are developing a partnership with Lathom Junior School which is situated in London.  We are hoping that some of our learners will be able to visit Lathom in London and some of the learners from Lathom can be hosted by Briardale Primary.

Learner achievement – Gareth Mogambery Gr.7.  We are indeed proud of Gareth Mogambery from Gr.7 as he won an essay competition organized by Shoprite Checkers.  His prize was the full payment of his school fees.  Gareth must be commended as he has donated his prize money to a needy learner (of his choice) who could not afford to pay school fees.  Well done!! We are proud of you and the many learners that we have at Briardale Primary who are indeed benevolent and extremely caring.
